Almost a Century of Warmth
The story of Odeja does not begin in a factory, but in modest rural homes where quilted blankets were made from homemade linen fabric and wool fibers. It was a heritage of knowledge passed down from generation to generation.
At first, the blankets were made for personal use, but later the skilled hands of women began making them for others as well. This is how a craft was born—one that combined skill, perseverance, and a sense of the warmth of home.

1927 – The Courage of Vision
In 1927, a merchant from Škofja Loka, Rado Thaler, recognized an opportunity. People no longer wanted to wait for custom-made products; they wanted high-quality, ready-made quilted blankets.
In a small shed next to a stable, he organized the manual production of blankets and employed the first workers. Modest beginnings, long working days and difficult conditions did not diminish the importance of this step – the foundation of the company had been laid.
In 1932, the activity was officially registered and the first Mammut quilting machines were purchased. Craft production became organized manufacturing.
War, Nationalization and a New Chapter
The company operated even during the Second World War. After liberation in 1945, it was taken over by state administration, and in 1947 a new state company was established:
District Manufacturing Company Odeja Škofja Loka.
A new period began, marked by limited resources, a planned economy and a shortage of materials – but also by strong determination and work ethic among employees.
Odeja grew together with the country.

The 1950s and 1960s – Transition to Industry
During the 1950s, the company gradually modernized.
The 1960s brought the first major investments:
- new quilting machines
- expansion of the product range
- the beginning of mattress topper production
- introduction of synthetic fillings
Odeja began to become synonymous with quality on the Yugoslav market.
The 1970s – A New Factory, New Energy
With the introduction of polyester fillings and an expanded product range, the company generated enough resources to build a new factory in Trata.
In 1973, Odeja moved into modern facilities under one roof.
Seven Mammut quilting machines were installed.
Production ran in two shifts, and working conditions improved significantly.
Odeja became a modern industrial company.

Growth Built on Own Resources
One characteristic has always defined Odeja: its development was largely financed with its own resources.
Instead of rapid leaps – thoughtful growth.
Instead of risk – stability.
Instead of dependence – independence.
In the 1980s, the company was already successfully exporting and expanding production capacities, while also investing in housing for employees and improving working conditions.
The Heart of the Company – People
For decades, the majority of employees were women.
Dedicated, persistent and disciplined.
They worked in demanding conditions, often in three shifts, yet with a strong sense of belonging to the collective. This connection became part of the company’s DNA.
Odeja was not just a factory – it was a community.

Today – Almost 100 Years of Tradition
From a small shed beside a stable grew a company that has been creating products for quality sleep for almost a century.
Traditional knowledge of quilted blankets is now combined with:
- advanced materials
- modern technology
- the development of proprietary collections
- a focus on ergonomics and healthy sleep
Today, Odeja is not only a manufacturer – it is a creator of healthy sleep environments.arjalec zdravega spalnega okolja.
The Art of Good Sleep
What began as manual quilting in rural homes is today an almost century-long story of perseverance, adaptability and continuous development.
A story that proves quality is not created overnight.
It is created over decades.
That is why the sleep created by Odeja is more than a product.
It is part of tradition.
It is part of trust.
It is the art of good sleep.
