How to choose the perfect quilt?

Choosing the right quilt for your bed is essential for good and vital sleep. However, when choosing the right quilt, there are a number of key factors to consider that will allow you to sleep well: your size, the size of your bed, the material of the quilt fabric, the filling of the quilt, maintenance, the season, as well as the climate where you are located.

To make your choice easier, we have simplified the selection of the perfect quilt for you into three simple steps:

1. Choose the right quilt size according to the size of your bed:

The first thing you need to know is the size of your bed frame, and the size of your quilt should match it. For better orientation, refer to the standard dimensions of bed frames in the table below:

2. Choose the right thermal insulation of your quilt:

Choose a quilt according to the season and temperature of your bedroom, while also considering your own preferences regarding the thickness of the quilt, as people react differently to temperature changes. Some people get hot very quickly, while others get cold even with small drops in temperature.

Based on thermal insulation, we categorize quilts as follows:

LIGHT SUMMER QUILTS: quilt filling from 100 g/m2 to 200 g/m2

MEDIUM WARM QUILTS: quilt filling from 300 g/m2 to 400 g/m2

VERY WARM QUILTS: quilt filling from 500 g/m2 to 600 g/m2

DOUBLE QUILT FOR ALL SEASON: two quilts that can be clipped together; the most recommended is a combination of a light quilt and a medium warm quilt

The insulating effect is not only provided by the thickness of the filling in the quilt but is also affected by the materials that form the filling. Some materials provide more thermal protection than others for the same amount of filling.

Based on the season, we can divide quilts into summer, winter, and year-round quilts:

SUMMER QUILTS

Summer quilts are for the most part made of natural materials, which are distinguished by their wonderful properties. The special property of natural materials is their high capability to regulate heat, which is especially important during hot summer months. Cotton is extremely breathable and hydrophilic, wool is a noted thermal insulator, and down is pleasantly soft and light. Generally, they create an extremely pleasant sleeping climate because they allow the body to fully regenerate. Summer quilts are mainly light quilts, but they also include medium-warm quilts for users who tend to get cold even on warmer nights.

WINTER QUILTS

For lower temperatures, choose quilts that have a high insulating effect. Wool is a wonderful and environmentally friendly material, natural fiber, and insulator. It is warm in winter, cool in summer, airy and breathable, and prevents excessive sweating, so you will be able to sleep comfortably under thick wool quilts in winter. Down is the lightest natural insulator known and quilts with this filling are a lighter and softer alternative to wool quilts for cold days. The extremely soft, exceptionally fine down captures tiny air pockets in the quilt filling to create insulation, while the larger, harder feathers provide mass, support, and structure to the filling. This makes it the perfect insulating material for quilts, especially on cold winter days.

YEAR-ROUND QUILTS

Year-round quilts include quilts that are pleasantly airy and regulate body temperature in the summer, while in the winter they offer enough thermal insulation to comfortably protect against low temperatures even on colder days. This category includes all wool quilts made of different natural materials, as their wonderful properties allow them to be adapted to different seasons and temperature fluctuations. For adapting to different seasons, you can choose a double quilt that can be adjusted according to your wishes and the season.

3. Choose the right quilt filling:

NATURAL FILLINGS

Natural fillings such as wool, cotton, duck and goose down and feathers are popular for their natural softness and airiness. A quilt with natural filling has excellent thermal and insulating properties. Natural fibers have a unique ability to capture air, making these fillings perfect for colder months, while also being breathable enough to be used in warmer months. Natural fillings allow your skin to breathe, as they are very breathable, and they also regulate body temperature while you sleep, ensuring comfort in a wide variety of conditions and temperatures. Quilts made from natural fibers are very durable and will serve you for many years.

  1. Down

Because downs grow under the outer protective layers of feathers, it is very flexible and fluffy, making down such an effective insulator. Down is very light, and its insulating properties keep you warm without weighing you down. The softness of the down allows the quilt to nicely embrace your body while you sleep, thereby further protecting you. The Downfil Extra quilt is a luxury quilt filled with Nordic goose down and feathers, which are characterized by substantial gentleness and softness. In addition to the premium filling, the quilt is nicely complemented by the high-quality cotton fabric, which is friendly to the skin, breathable, and light.

  1. Wool

A soft and comfortable wool quilt regulates your body temperature while you sleep, keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer. The unique cellular structure of wool fibers allows millions of air pockets to be created, which retain heat and ensure good insulation in winter. Because of their cellular structure, wool fibers are also extremely breathable and thus prevent excessive sweating on summer days. Wool is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to mites and mould. It is an extremely durable natural material that makes a sustainable product.

  1. Cotton

Cotton is known for its light and pleasant warmth, comfort and softness. It is an excellent choice for warmer seasons and warm bedrooms and is especially suitable for anyone who likes to be hot and sweating during sleep. A cotton quilt is breathable and hydrophilic and regulates body temperature throughout the night.

AN ALTERNATIVE TO NATURAL FILLINGS – QUILTS FOR PEOPLE WITH ALLERGIES OR ASTHMA

Quilts made from alternative fibers offer good insulation and are the best choice if you are sensitive or allergic to natural fillings, or if your quilt needs more frequent washing.

  1. Microfibres

An excellent alternative to quilts with natural filling, as microfibres provide excellent comfort and thermal insulation in all seasons at an affordable price. Because they can be washed and tumble-dried frequently, microfibre quilts are durable and easy to care for, making them an excellent practical choice.

  1. Polyester

Polyester fibers are synthetic fibers that are very durable and easy to maintain. The elastic structure of these fibers makes these quilts flexible and adaptable to users, and also suitable for people with allergies or asthma, as they prevent the growth of unwanted microorganisms.
